Upper school students have turned a shared passion into a growing opportunity for younger middle school peers. With so many clubs to choose from the fishing club has quickly become popular, led by students Cooper Franklin and Rowland Settle, working alongside Mrs. Madison Finley, environmental learning center teacher.
The club meets once a month on Wednesdays, gathering at the two ponds bordering the school’s soccer field. There, members practice freshwater fishing techniques using standard rods, reels, and a range of bait. Spinner baits and freshwater worms are the most popular choices among participants as they are best for the freshwater fish found in the pond and they are inexpensive.
The club has already seen notable success. Students have reported catching a variety of species from the ponds, including bluegill, bass, and carp. Beyond the catches themselves, the club offers members a chance to develop patience, learn new skills, and connect with peers in the outdoors.
