Cross upper school students participated in the Academic World Quest competition, organized by the local Hilton Head Island Chapter of the World Affairs Council since 2012 and hosted by Bluffton High School. This competition is a game of trivia style questions asked about many different categories ranging from: world events, regional histories, migration, immigration, pop culture, soft power, and nuclear policy issues.
The World Affairs Council of Hilton Head website describes “Academic World Quest [as] more than just a game.” The competition is organized to “help prepare students for a globally connected, rapidly transforming world.”
This year’s team members included: Alivia Church, Bella Stone, Ella Michalopoulos, Kylee Jansen, Chase McDaniel, Wells Palmer, Ella Gallagher, and Logan Greene.
Junior Alivia Church commented that, “World quest was an amazing experience to learn about topics I wouldn’t normally study. It expanded my knowledge on global issues while also providing a fun outlet to learn.” Chase McDaniel stated, “It was such a great experience to learn about so many different topics. They all connect to huge global issues going on in the world right now so it helped me to get a better understanding of them.”
